Moderna accelerates Covid-19 vaccine shipments to US for Q2 and Q3

(Sharecast News) - Moderna is accelerating shipments of its Covid-19 vaccine to the US federal government as the country races to head off the pandemic. In a supply date published the day before, the company said that it would supply one of its batches of 100m doses by July 2021 instead of September 2021.

Another batch of 100m doses that had been scheduled for shipment from the end of June was also brought forward, but by one month.

That was on top of the delivery of 100m doses the biotechnology outfit was targeting for the end of the first quarter of 2021.

Thus far, Moderna had supplied the government with 45.4m doses, 25.5m of which had already been administered.

A further 33.2m doses had already been produced and placed in vails, and were now in the final stages productuion and testing prior to their release.

The company also stuck to its prior commitment to deliver 100m doses to the US by 31 March.

More recently, the firm had encountered short-term delays in the final stages of production and release of filled vials on account of its 'fill and finish' contractor, Catalent.

Nevertheless, management said those delays would only impact on the near-term deliveries but would not alter the companys monthly commitments.
