Redmayne Bentley continues expansion with Leeds appointments

Investment management and stockbroking firm Redmayne Bentley is continuing its expansion of its Investment Management business with two new appointments to its Leeds investment management team.

Investment Manager Ian Booth and Investment Management Department Manager Stuart Ryan have been welcomed to the organisation towards the end of a landmark year for the firm.

Ian began his career at Barclays in 1979 in Barrow-in-Furness, and after various internal moves and a stint in the City of London in the late 1980’s, established himself as a private client manager with the bank during 1991. He remained with Barclays until 2002, when he joined private bank and wealth manager Coutts as a private banking director.

In 2013, Ian took up the post of Divisional Director at Brewin Dolphin in Manchester. Among his former colleagues was Roy Kaitcer, who, like Ian, is now an investment manager in the Leeds office.
Ian said: “I joined Redmayne Bentley as I was attracted to the size of the firm, and its reputation for excellent client service. This, coupled with a northern powerhouse in Leeds, swayed my decision.

“The firm has a long history with investment management and stockbroking, and I was impressed with the investment proposition, which, while not too prescriptive, was robust and disciplined, which will suit my clients.
“The staff at Leeds have been fabulous and very supportive and I’m really looking forward to working with the team.”

Stuart graduated from the University of Wales with a degree in Law and commenced his career in finance at HSBC in Canary Wharf. He has gained a wide range of experience in finance from investment management and investment banking to financial trading and market making.

In 2010, he moved across to wealth management, working for London-based independent financial adviser Holden & Partners as investment manager, leading the in-house investment team. This included portfolio construction including socially-responsible investing (SRI), environmental, social and governance investing, investment research, conducting face-to-face meetings with both fund managers and clients and being a member of the internal investment committee.

He made the move to Yorkshire in 2017, joining the financial research company Rayner Spencer Mills focusing on fund research as well as their investment trust and SRI ratings. In addition, he also managed advisory client portfolios as well as being the lead manager on their discretionary fund management proposition.
Stuart is a Chartered Fellow of the CISI and holds the Chartered Wealth Manager qualification. Additionally, he holds the IMC and the CII Diploma in Financial Planning.

Stuart said: “I joined Redmayne Bentley to bring together my industry experience and qualifications into one organisation. Redmayne Bentley is a dynamic business with a rich history and a great future, a future I wish to be part of and contribute to.

“I am looking forward to being part of an experienced and respected team.”

James Andrews, Director – Head of Investment Management, said: “I am delighted to welcome two such high quality individuals as Ian and Stuart to our team. They both bring high levels of experience and expertise as we continue to grow the Investment Management business.

“As their arrival highlights, we remain focussed on growing our presence across the UK and are always keen to have discussions with talented investment management professionals who share our values, of delivering excellent levels of service with the client always at the centre, as they have been since our beginnings more than 140 years ago.

“We remain one of the few true providers of bespoke discretionary investment management, affording our investment managers the autonomy required to create truly bespoke portfolios without being constrained by in-house buy lists and focusing on exactly what their clients need.”
