FTSE 100 movers: United Utilities, Fresnillo in the black

(Sharecast News) - London's FTSE 100 was up 0.5% at 8,572.44 in afternoon trade on Wednesday. United Utilities gained after saying it has accepted the UK water regulator's final determination for the next regulatory period, committing to a £13bn investment programme over the five years to March 2030.

The water company said it would be the largest investment in water and wastewater infrastructure in over a century, supporting 30,000 jobs and contributing £35bn in economic value to the North West.

Fresnillo shone as the precious metals miner met guidance with silver output in 2024 and marginally beat expectations with gold production, with full-year profits more than doubling as costs fell and commodity prices jumped.

Gross profits are expected to be within the range of $1.2bn-1.3bn, up more than 135% on 2023, while profits from continuing operations should come in between $930m-950m, up more than 500%, the company said in a fourth-quarter production report.
