Chicago PMI falls for third straight month

(Sharecast News) - Business activity across the wider Chicago area fell to a six-month low in June, according to the region's Institute for Supply Management The Chicago Business Barometer inched 0.1 points lower to 40.4 this month, marking the 19th straight month before neutral level of 50.0.

This was the third straight monthly decline and the lowest since January.

According to the Chicago ISM, new orders jumped 4.1 points, driven by a lower proportion of purchasing managers reporting fewer new orders compared with May.

However, this was completely offset by falls in supplier deliveries, production, employment and order backlogs - with the latter dropping to its lowest since May 2020.

During the month, some 17% of purchasing managers expect a decline in business activity in the second half of 2025, while 28% forecast no growth.
