US construction spending bounces back, tops forecasts
(Sharecast News) - Spending on US construction projects rose by the most in five months in February, according to data from the Census Bureau.
Construction spending, which covers all private and public construction and can indicate levels of confidence and future economic activity, totalled $2.196trn in February, up 0.7% from the month before and ahead of the 0.3% consensus forecast.
That was a solid rebound from the revised 0.5% drop in spending seen in January and the strongest rate of monthly growth since October.
Private construction spending rose 0.9% to $1.686trn, while public construction spending edged 0.2% higher to $509bn.
Compared with the year before, construction spending across the first two months of 2025 combined was $311bn or 2.1% more than the corresponding period, the Census Bureau said.
