Government confirms 2027 ISA Reforms won't go ahead

The Government has confirmed that the ISA reforms due to take effect from April 2027 will no longer go ahead. This means the current ISA framework will remain in place, providing continued flexibility for savers and investors.

The Government has announced that the ISA reforms previously scheduled for April 2027 will not proceed.
The proposed changes were intended to encourage more people to invest through Stocks & Shares ISAs rather than hold savings solely in cash, with the aim of supporting long-term wealth creation and encouraging investment in the wider economy.

The reforms would have impacted how some investors and savers could use their annual ISA allowances. Following a review, the Government has decided to retain the existing ISA structure.

How could investors be affected?
The current ISA framework will remain in place, meaning eligible individuals can continue to use their annual ISA allowance across available ISA types, subject to ISA rules.
Whether you prefer to hold cash for shorter-term goals, invest for the longer term, or use a combination of both, ISAs remain a tax-efficient way to save and invest.

Cash Within a Stocks & Shares ISA
While cash can be held within a Stocks & Shares ISA, the account is primarily intended for investment purposes. Cash balances are therefore generally expected to be temporary and held pending investment or to meet anticipated cash needs within the portfolio.
