Fundraisers light the way over Yorkshire’s Three Peaks

A team of four are taking their firm’s fundraising efforts from the heart of Leeds’ financial quarter to the highest heights of Yorkshire for children affected by cancer.

Fiona Lumb, Brogan Hirst, Epo Li and Simon Milestone, all from Leeds-based investment management and stockbroking firm Redmayne-Bentley, are tackling the Yorkshire Three Peaks challenge this weekend for Candlelighters.

So far this year, the firm’s Leeds branch has raised money for its chosen charity for 2017 through various events such as the 5km Gung-Ho! Challenge at Temple Newsam and compliance officer Nigel Finlay’s head and beard shave earlier this year. Within the office, staff have held superdraws, sweepstakes and bake-offs.

Simon, the firm’s finance manager, said: “My baking skills are sadly lacking, so when I saw the Yorkshire Three Peaks on the Candlelighters’ fundraising calendar, I thought it would be the ideal way for me to contribute towards the fundraising this year.

“Hopefully the weather will be kind to us. The part of the day I dread the most is the early start as we will have to be up at around 4.30am to be able to make it to Horton in Ribblesdale for the briefing at 6.15am; the part of the day I am most looking forward to is a celebratory pint at the Crown Inn at the finish line, with a well-earned portion of fish and chips from the Fisherman in Settle a close second.”

Candlelighters’ work to support families affected by cancer is carried out in various ways, including at the Children’s Hospital at Leeds General Infirmary, as well as The Square in the centre of Leeds. There is also The Bus, which carries this support out into the community.

The Redmayne-Bentley Leeds branch’s chosen charity for 2017 provides support to children in the county who are being treated for cancer, as well as their families.

The charity also funds holidays for families with children being treated for cancer, in addition to family events throughout the year.

Brian Curran, Candlelighters’ Corporate Fundraiser said: “The guys from Redmayne-Bentley will be joining over 100 other walkers taking on this iconic and challenging walk. We are grateful for all their support and meeting this challenge will help families meeting their own challenges when dealing with a childhood cancer diagnosis.”
