Bumper demand sees Q1 sales surge at Renishaw

(Sharecast News) - Shares in engineer Renishaw sparked on Thursday, after strong demand from semiconductor and defence customers fuelled a surge in first-quarter sales. Updating on trading, the firm - a specialist in measuring and manufacturing systems - said group revenues had jumped 47%, or 48% on a constant currency basis, to £251.8m, in the three months to 30 September.

All three divisions posted an uplift in revenues, including a 28% jump to £130.8m in industrial metrology, Renishaw's largest unit, with "notably stronger" sales into the defence and aerospace, energy and consumer electronics sector.

However, the biggest growth was seen in position measurement, where sales rocketed 84% to £96m on the back of bumper demand from semiconductor manufacturing customers.

Renishaw said: "We have seen a strong start to the 2027 full year, continuing and broadening the momentum that we established throughout the prior year. Demand in semiconductor, aerospace and defence sectors remains strong, and is now being complemented by wider automation investment in other industries.

"We are working hard to scale our supply chain and production capacity, while remaining mindful of the cyclical nature of demand over the medium term.

"We continue to expect strong progress on revenue and operating margin for the 2027 full year as a whole."

As at 1115 BST, the stock had put on 2% at 5,480p to top the FTSE 250's risers board.
