Stellantis issues recall of 1m Jeeps over fire risk
(Sharecast News) - Stellantis has issued a recall of over one million Jeep cars in the US over possible fire risks, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has announced.
According to the NHTSA, a total of 1.08m Jeep Wrangler and Jeep Gladiator models manufactured between 2021 and 2025 have been recalled because of a defect in the hydraulic power steering system.
An electrical issue may cause overheating and spontaneous fires, even with the ignition turned off, the auto safety regulator said.
"In rare circumstances, this may cause combustible materials to overheat, potentially leading to a vehicle fire," said a Stellantis spokesperson said in a statement.
The auto maker warned customers not to park inside or close to structures while it works on a solution, which it expects to be figure out "no later than July".
NYSE-listed Stellantis shares were up 1% in pre-market trading on Tuesday at $7.15.
