JD Sports planning sale of Billionaire Boys Club streetwear brand licence - report
(Sharecast News) - JD Sports Fashion is reportedly exploring a sale of the wholesale business which owns a licence to the Billionaire Boys Club streetwear brand founded by music star Pharrell Williams.
According to Sky News, the sportswear retailer is working with advisers at Interpath on a potential deal. Prospective acquirers of the BBC licence have been sounded out in recent weeks about a transaction, Sky sources said.
JD Sports Fashion bought A Number of Names (ANON), a wholesaler with the licence to the BBC brand in countries including the UK, Europe, the Middle East and Canada, in late 2020. Its commercial performance since then has been unclear, although one source described the brand as "non-core" to JD Sports.
Billionaire Boys Club was founded by musician Williams and Japanese designer Nigo in 2003. They were reported to have bought back full control of the brand's legal entity in 2016.
A spokesperson for JD Sports declined to comment.
At 123 BST, the shares were up 3.7% at 86.66p.
