Meta ramps up AI build‑out with major Nvidia chip deployment

(Sharecast News) - Social media giant Meta said late on Tuesday that it will deploy millions of Nvidia chips across its artificial intelligence data‑centre network as part of an expanded partnership between the two companies. Meta will use Nvidia's new standalone CPUs, next‑generation Vera Rubin systems and the firm's Spectrum‑X networking technology, which links GPUs across large‑scale AI facilities. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Meta chief executive Mark Zuckerberg said the agreement supports the group's long‑term ambition to deliver "personal superintelligence", a strategy first outlined last year. While Meta has used Nvidia GPUs for more than a decade, the latest deal marks a broader multiyear collaboration.

The investment forms part of Meta's previously announced plan to spend $600bn in the US by 2028 on data‑centre infrastructure, with the company currently building two of its largest AI sites - the Prometheus facility in New Albany, Ohio, and the Hyperion site in Richland Parish, Louisiana - and ultimately planning to operate 30 data centres around the worl, 26 of which will be in the US.

Meta will also use Nvidia's security capabilities to support AI‑driven features on WhatsApp. Engineering teams from both companies will work together to optimise and accelerate Meta's next generation of AI models.

As of 0805 GMT, Meta shares were up 0.66% in pre-market action at $643.50 each, while Nvidia shares advanced 0.79% ahead of the bell to $186.43 each.
