Eurozone construction falters in August

(Sharecast News) - The Eurozone's construction sector faltered in August, official figures showed on Monday, weighed down by weakness in civil engineering. According to first estimates from Eurostat, the European Union's statistical office, production in construction eased 0.1% in August, and by 0.9% in the wider bloc.

That compares to growth of 0.5% in July in the Eurozone, and an upwardly revised 0.9% uplift in the EU.

Among individual sectors, specialised construction activities posted a 0.1% uptick in production, while construction of buildings softened by 0.1%. However, production fell 1.3% in civil engineering.

Among member states, Germany reported a 0.6% increase in production, building on July's 0.1% uptick.

Spain and France also saw improvements. In Spain, production rose 0.3% compared to July's 2.6% slide, while in France it rose 1.2%, against the previous month's 0.5% rise.

However, in Italy construction output fell 1.6%, reversing July's 0.7% gain.

Year-on-year, production in construction increased by 0.1% in the Eurozone in August and was unchanged in the EU.
