German CPI confirmed at nine-month high in September

(Sharecast News) - Germany inflation was confirmed at a nine-month high in September, with final estimates on Tuesday showing an increase in price pressures in line with the flash reading. The harmonised consumer price index increased at a year-on-year rate of 2.4% in September, according to the Federal Statistical Office, up from 2.2% in August and 2.0% in June and July.

This was in line with consensus forecasts and the highest inflation rate since December 2024.

"Following a period of decreasing inflation since the start of the year, an increase in the rate of inflation was registered for the second consecutive month," said Ruth Brand, president of Destatis.

"The prices of services continued to increase at an above-average rate. In addition, the decline in energy prices continued to slow significantly and contributed less to easing inflation than it did in the recent past."

Core inflation, which excludes volatile items like food and energy, rose to 2.8% from 2.7%.
