Friday preview: US inflation, consumer confidence in focus

(Sharecast News) - Investors' focus at the end of the week will shift back to the inflation picture in the States. At 1430 BST, the Department of Commerce will release a reading for personal income and expenditures during the month of August.

Contained in that report will be a reading on the Federal Reserve's preferred inflation gauge, the core price deflator for personal consumption expenditures.

Consensus is that core PCE price gains were steady at 2.9% year-on-year last month.

The annual rate of increase in headline PCE prices was forecast to have ticked up by one tenth of a percentage point to 2.7%.

Later, at 1600 BST, the University of Michigan will publish the results of its consumer confidence survey for September.

Among other items, markets will be focused on the gauges for inflation expectations contained in that same report.

Overnight, authorities in Japan will release the Tokyo CPI report for September.

No major economic releases are due out in the UK or euro area.
