FTSE 100 movers: Rolls-Royce slides on Safran warning; energy shares gain

(Sharecast News) - London's FTSE 100 was down 0.6% at 10,663.86 in afternoon trade on Friday. Rolls-Royce tumbled after French peer Safran warned of softening growth in the wide-body jet market.

The engine maker was also in focus following a report it's nearing a deal for government subsidies of up to £200m ‌to help fund the development of a new engine for short-haul aircraft. According to the Financial Times, an announcement is possible as early as next week.

Precious metals miner Fresnillo was also in the red as gold and silver prices fell.

On the upside, BP, Ithaca Energy and Shell were the top performers on the index as oil gained amid reports the US and Israel are planning renewed military strikes on Iran after the US midterm elections.

Miner Anglo American nudged higher after an upgrade to 'buy' at Bank of America.
