Europe midday: Shares hit record intra-day high on Wall St, Asia rally
(Sharecast News) - European shares hit a record intra-day high on Friday on the back of a rebound on Wall Street and Asia overnight.
The benchmark Stoxx 600 index was up 0.57% to 653 at 1211 BST having hit 656 earlier with all major bourses higher. US major indices closed higher on Thursday as traders digested a fresh wave of Big Tech earnings, while Amazon and Apple posted better-than-expected earnings.
In Asia, South Korea's Kospi surged by more than 15% and Japan's Nikkei 225 rose 3% reversing losses earlier this week driven by fears of overvaluations and borrowing in the tech sector. Shares in ASML, Infineon and STMicroelectronics both gained on the rally.
In other equity news Credit Agricole jumped after results. Puma fell after releasing earnings.
