Boeing reports narrower loss, books another Air Force One charge

(Sharecast News) - Boeing reported a narrower second-quarter loss on Tuesday as higher commercial aircraft deliveries boosted revenue and helped the US planemaker return to positive free cash flow, although another charge related to its delayed Air Force One programme weighed on earnings. Revenue rose 8% year-on-year to $24.56bn and the net loss narrowed to $428m from $612m, while free cash flow improved to $631m from an outflow of $200m.

Commercial aircraft deliveries rose to 171 from 143 in the first quarter.

The group booked a further $280m charge on the $3.9bn programme to replace the US presidential aircraft as it increased engineering and other resources to target delivery of the two modified 747-8 jets in 2028.

Boeing maintained its full-year free cash flow guidance of $1bn to $3bn, which would mark its first positive annual result since 2023, as it continues to increase 737 MAX production.

"We continue moving in the right direction," said chief executive Kelly Ortberg.

At 1112 EDT (1612 BST), shares in the Boeing Company were up 1.89% in New York at $215.49.
