Antofagasta guidance unchanged despite Los Pelambres shutdown

(Sharecast News) - Operations have resumed at Antofagasta's Los Pelambres copper mine in Chile following a temporary stoppage due to heavy rainfall, the mining group announced on Friday. A period of "intense precipitation and intermittent power outages" started late on 18 July, affecting several regions in Chile, including the north-central Coquimbo region where Los Pelambres is located.

This rainfall led to the orderly shutdown of the processing plant and mining operations at the mine, though operations resumed on 23 July.

There has been no material impact to equipment or key infrastructure, according to the miner, while no safety incidents were reported.

"This includes the El Mauro tailings dam, which has a series of surge ponds downstream of the dam that form part of the overall water management system currently in use and includes the controlled discharge of excess rainwater," Antofagasta said.

Ahead of its interim results on 13 August, Antofagasta said its production guidance remains unchanged.
