Emmerson granted UK patent for Khemisset process
(Sharecast News) - Emmerson said on Friday that the UK Intellectual Property Office had granted patent status for its Khemisset multi-mineral process, protecting the core technology and its optimised derivative products.
The AIM-traded mining company said the process was developed for the Khemisset potash project in Morocco but could potentially be applied to other potash deposits globally.
Emmerson said the technology reduced the project's water requirements by 50%, increased muriate of potash recovery from 85% to about 91%, and created two slow-release fertiliser products, struvite and vivianite.
The company also reiterated that its subsidiaries are pursuing arbitration against Morocco through the International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes, seeking $1.215bn in compensation over alleged breaches of the UK-Morocco bilateral investment treaty.
Emmerson said there could be no certainty over the outcome of the claims.
At 1146 BST, shares in Emmerson were up 15% at 2.3p.
