Ofgem orders OVO to pay £10.4m over prepayment‑meter failings
(Sharecast News) - UK energy watchdog Ofgem said on Wednesday that OVO Energy has agreed to pay roughly £10.4m in redress after an investigation found that failings in its processes between 2018 and 2024 may have put prepayment‑meter customers at risk.
Ofgem, which has taken similar action against British Gas, said the settlement included a £7m payment into its voluntary redress fund, alongside £3.4m in customer credits and debt relief in lieu of compensation or formal penalties.
"It is clear that OVO fell short in its support of vulnerable PPM customers, and it's right that they've taken action to improve their processes," said Cathryn Scott, director of market oversight and enforcement.
Separately, Ovo will pay about £1.1m to customers in Scotland's Highlands and Islands after a review found certain rural households lacked adequate access to engineer support between January 2022 and April 2024.
