Anthropic lands $30bn round, securing second‑largest private tech raise

(Sharecast News) - While OpenAI has held on to the record for the largest private tech fundraising round, rival Anthropic has now secured the second‑largest. Anthropic said late on Thursday that it had closed a $30bn funding round at a $380bn post‑money valuation, more than doubling its valuation since September.

The Claude developer has been racing to keep pace with OpenAI, which raised over $40bn in a SoftBank‑led deal in 2025, eclipsing Ant Group's previous $14bn record from 2018.

Anthropic said the latest round included a portion of previously announced commitments from Microsoft and Nvidia, which in November outlined plans to invest up to $5bn and up to $10bn, respectively.

"Whether it is entrepreneurs, startups, or the world's largest enterprises, the message from our customers is the same: Claude is increasingly becoming more critical to how businesses work," said chief financial officer Krishna Rao. "This fundraising reflects the incredible demand we are seeing from these customers."
