China GDP grows 5% in 2025

(Sharecast News) - China's economy expanded by 5% in 2025 despite US tariffs, with exports boosting GDP and offset a weak domestic economy, official data revealed on Monday. The 2025 figure was in line with forecasts, although GDP growth slowed in the final three months of the year to 4.5% from 4.8% in the third quarter, according to the National Bureau of Statistics said.

Fixed asset investment fell a worse-than-expected 3.8%. Analysts had forecast a decline of 3.1%. Retail sales were up 0.9% year on year in December, and 3.7% for the full year.

The country's troubled real estate market slumped for the fourth year in a row, with property investment plunging 17.2% against forecasts of 16.5%. New construction starts fell 20.4% compared with 2024.
