Aegon to relocate HQ from Netherlands to US

(Sharecast News) - Life insurance and pensions firm Aegon announced on Wednesday that it will relocate its headquarters and legal seat from Netherlands to the United States, where it will rebrand as Transamerica. Aegon noted that its business units will continue to operate under their existing brands.

Chief executive Lard Friese said the move would allow the group to "fully capture the opportunities in the largest life insurance market in the world", adding that Aegon's ambition was to become a leading US life insurance and retirement provider.

The relocation, which was expected to be completed by January 2028, will affect around 250 employees at Aegon's Dutch head office.

Aegon expects the transaction to cost an estimated €350m over the coming years.

As of 1040 GMT, Aegon shares were down 8.25% at €6.31 each.
