US durable goods orders rise 0.5pc in September

(Sharecast News) - US durable goods orders rose modestly in September, according to the Census Bureau. New orders for manufactured durable goods increased 0.5% month‑on‑month, following an upwardly revised 3% gain in August and topping consensus estimates for a 0.3% rise.

Transportation equipment orders grew 0.4%, compared with an 8% surge in the prior month, led by a 30.9% jump in defence aircraft and a 0.4% increase in vehicles.

Excluding transportation, durable goods orders advanced 0.6% in September after a 0.5% rise in August. When stripping out defence, orders were up just 0.1%, following a 1.9% increase the previous month.
