Eric began his career in stockbroking in February 1978 when he joined the Edinburgh firm of Wishart, Brodie & Co. Later that year, he moved to the small Dunfermline firm of Torrie & Co, where he would remain for the next 20 years. Eric was appointed as an office manager at Torrie & Co in 1980, and the firm subsequently moved to Edinburgh in 1982. In 1984, Eric was elected as a Member of The Stock Exchange (the youngest ever Member in Scotland) was and made a partner in the firm in 1989.
In 1999 Eric left Torrie & Co and opened an office for Redmayne Bentley in his hometown of Dunfermline. After ten successful years in Dunfermline, the decision was made to amalgamate the Dunfermline and Perth offices (prompted by Douglas Gibson’s retirement from the Perth office). Eric now concentrates mainly on serving his bank of discretionary and advisory clients. He is a Chartered Fellow of the Chartered Institute for Securities and Investment and a chartered wealth manager. In September 2024 Eric celebrated his 25th year with Redmayne Bentley.

Away from the office, Eric is a keen golfer, playing off a handicap of 15, a loyal fan of Dunfermline Athletic Football Club and supports Southampton Football Club, attending a few games each season. He enjoys travel, holidays, and spending time with friends and family.
