Stock Market for Beginners

A stock market provides a facility for people to buy and sell shares.

What is a share?

A share, as the name suggests, means a share in the value of a company and the shareholder will be expecting to receive a payout or dividend in return for investing their money in the company. The company's management will look to invest the money raised from investors in the future growth of the organisation.

If the strategy is successful the value of the company, and therefore each of the shares in it, will go up. If an investor then chooses to sell their shares in that company they will have a made a profit, or capital gain.
