Child Trust Funds

This is a great way to save a little nest egg for your children and grandchildren absolutely tax-free. CTF accounts have been available since 6th April 2005 for eligible children born on or after 1st September 2002.

What are Child Trust Funds?

A tax-free savings account for children opened with a £250 government voucher. Parents, grandparents and friends have the opportunity to top up the voucher by up to £3,600 per year. The funds can be invested in cash or stock-market related investments and will grow free of tax until the child reaches 18 when they can convert it to an ISA or withdraw the money.

What are the benefits?

  • Tax-free savings for children - build up a sizeable pot by age 18.
  • Flexibility on the areas of investment, from domestic markets such as the FTSE 100 to overseas areas such as China, through to commodities such as oil and gold.
  • Low commission rates on investing.
  • Contributions can be made at anytime, although regular monthly contributions will benefit from pound cost averaging.

What are the risks?

  • Commodities can be volatile.
  • Overseas markets can carry political and currency risk.
  • Governments and subsequent tax rules may change before the child reaches 18.

How much does it cost?

  • £20 flat fee per year
  • Our commission is 1.65 per cent (minimum £10) per transaction, 'settlement and compliance' charge (£7.50) and any applicable government taxes and duties.
  • Transfers-in and transfers-out to other providers made free of charge. Dealing costs may apply
