BlackRock Smaller Cos beats benchmark

26 April 2016 07:52

BlackRock Smaller Companies Trust's net asset value increased by 4.0% to 992.18p per share in the year to the end of February.

This compares with a 4.4% fall in its benchmark, the Numis Smaller Companies plus AIM (excluding investment companies) Index.

The company’s share price increased by 6.3% to 863.00p per share.

It said this outperformance over the benchmark had taken place against a background of significant market volatility. The main factors underlying this have been concerns over slowing growth in China, the strength and sustainability of US growth and the weakness of oil and other resource prices. Markets have also been affected by uncertainty over the outcome of the forthcoming UK vote on whether or not to leave the European Union.
