Equipment faults disrupt flow rates at Block Energy well in Georgia

Block Energy said oil and gas production at a key well in the nation of Georgia had varied significantly due to equipment failures.

Downhole equipment in the WR-16aZ horizontal sidetrack well had failed during an attempted cementing of the well in the course of drilling.

Block Energy said WR-16aZ continued to flow strongly, producing a combination of oil, water and gas.

From 17 to 23 September production averaged a choked-back rate of 230 barrels per day of liquid at an average water cut of 78%.

The well had flowed gas at rates significantly higher levels than the company had anticipated.

Block Energy said it was implementing an evaluation and intervention programme designed to isolate and reduce the water the well was producing, and to increase net oil production.

'In keeping with the company's philosophy of sourcing the best contemporary technologies for the task at hand, Block has selected downhole production logging equipment to identify the respective origins of the oil, water and gas the well is flowing,' it added.
