Mondi ups expected cost of new containerboard machine to €340m

Packaging group Mondi increased the expected cost of a new containerboard machine in Slovakia to €340m, up from €310m.

The rise was pinned on refinements to the machine's technical concept and higher construction costs since it was initially scoped.

The so-called kraft top white machine was expected to start-up towards the end of 2020.

Group capital expenditure continued to be in line with a previous estimate of €700-800m per annum in 2018 and 2019.

The machine would produce a 'new and unique' environmentally-sound containerboard grade.

A related pulp mill upgrade at the same site was progressing according to plan, with start-up expected in late 2019, Mondi added. Story provided by
