UK stocks opened little changed on Thursday with all eyes on the latest retail sales data

At 0915, the benchmark FTSE 100 index was down 6.13 points, or 0.08%, at 7,670.15.

SSE fell 3% after it said dry, still and warm weather and persistently high gas prices had negatively impacted its adjusted operating profit by around £80m in the first quarter. It added that this would potentially impact on its full-year results.

Discount retailer Sports Direct slumped 7.55% after it reported profits plunged 73% weighed down by its large stake in struggling retailer Debenhams.

Big Yellow Group edged 0.98% higher after reporting like-for-like revenue increased by 7.6% in the fiscal first quarter as occupancy rose by 131,000 square feet resulting in a closing occupancy of 83.4%.

dotdigital Group climbed 16.44% after it said it expected annual operating profit to meet expectations as the company made 'substantial' progress against its strategic aims.

Everyman Media Group climbed 5.39% as it said its performance had been in line with expectations for the 52 weeks ended 5 July.

International software provider Sopheon plc jumped 14.87% after it reported that revenue visibility stood at $26.5m at the end of June, continuing the positive momentum from 2017. Story provided by StockMarketWire.com
