Honda to sell limited batch of Legend self-driving cars

(Sharecast News) - Honda announced on Thursday that it would sell a limited batch of its flagship Legend sedan which includes a level 3 autonomous driving technology. The limited edition Legend will be sold from Friday in Japan at a retail price of $103,000, Honda said.

Self-driving technology enables vehicles to navigate congested highways when the "Traffic Jam Pilot" is activated.

The autonomous pilot allows a driver to watch movies or use the navigation on the screen with the aim of mitigating fatigue and stress when driving, Honda said in a statement.

The tech also alerts the driver to respond when handing over the control and in the case of not receiving response it initiates an emergency stop.

According to Reuters, the automaker's plan to sell 100 of the vehicles would give it an edge in the race to become the first company to mass produce level 3 autonomous cars.

The "Traffic Jam Pilot" was awarded in November the safety certification by the Japanese government.

The automaker has no plans to increase production or sales of the flagship car, Reuters reported on Thursday.
