Friday preview: Global manufacturing, UK consumer confidence in focus

(Sharecast News) - The focus at the end of the week will shift to the release of a raft of factory and services sector Purchasing Managers Indices in the UK, US and euro area. Those PMIs from survey compiler IHS Markit are expected to show weaker activity across all three regions, especially in the UK due to the impact of the third Covid-19 lockdown, which Barclays Research said was hurting businesses more than the second.

Also on home shores, overnight GfK will publish its consumer confidence for the UK in January, followed at 0700 GMT by monthly retail sales and public sector borrowing figures, the latter two courtesy of the Office for National Statistics.

The euro area PMIs are due out at 1000 GMT and those for the US at 1445 GMT.

Existing home sales data covering the month of January from the Department Commerce will follow at 1500 GMT.
