Eric celebrates a 20-year bond with Redmayne Bentley

The last two decades may have been a rollercoaster ride for global financial markets but the dedication to customer service for a Perth-based investment manager has remained the same.

This year Eric Spreng celebrates 20 years with investment management and stockbroking firm Redmayne Bentley.

Eric said: “I have no doubt that joining Redmayne Bentley was the best decision I ever made.  The firm is run by good honest people, and what you see is what you get. While the industry has undergone huge change in my working lifetime I feel privileged to have worked with a firm which has provided me with a satisfying, rewarding and fulfilling career.”

Having begun his own stockbroking career in 1978 – a time that many will remember as a difficult time for the UK economy – Eric already had a great deal of experience in the industry. After answering an advert in The Scotsman, Eric started his career with Wishart Brodie & Company in Edinburgh as a transfer clerk before moving on to run the back office of the then Edinburgh-based firm Torrie & Co.

He opened an office for Redmayne Bentley in Dunfermline in September 1999, changing his focus from the back office to the investment management side of the business. He was ably assisted by his long-time colleague at Torrie & Co, Lorraine Laird.

For the first five years the Dunfermline office was situated in the town’s Kirkgate in the shadow of Dunfermline Abbey before moving to Chalmers Street, across the road from the locally-renowned Louise Carnegie Glen Gates.

In 2009, the Dunfermline office merged with the firm’s Perth office in Marshall Place. Eric still works there today, together with his colleagues Lorraine, Simeon Laing and Susan Watt, and between them they boast over 100 years of experience in private client stockbroking.

Keith Loudon OBE, Chairman, and Liz Dean, HR Director visited the Perth office to congratulate Eric. Keith said: “It has been a pleasure to work with Eric; long may it continue! Eric is a big man with a big heart, and he can always be relied upon!”

Liz said: “We really do value long-term partnerships with highly talented individuals and it’s wonderful to have someone who has dedicated half his working life to our firm. We would like to say a huge thank you to Eric for all his hard work and dedication.”
