Superwoman Rachael puts Mind over Mudder

She pulled herself through deep bogs and swamp-like mud and ran over one of the highest mountains in the UK.

But Rachael Crabtree has described her year of gruelling physical challenges, covering more than 50 miles of the country’s toughest terrain, as “amazing”.

As well as achieving incredible physical feats, she has raised more than £600 for city-based mental health support charity Leeds Mind.

Rachael, who is 27 and lives in Beeston, Leeds, said: “I think Leeds Mind is a great charity and mental health should be researched and funded more than it is at the moment.

“I am generally quite an active person anyway, so my reasons for doing these challenges was a mixture of wanting to raise money for a great cause and gaining a personal achievement.”

Leeds Mind was the chosen charity for 2018 by the Leeds office of investment management and stockbroking firm Redmayne Bentley, where Rachael is an Investment Administrator.

Rachael’s fundraising activities during 2018 included:
  • A 5km Gung Ho race over an inflatable obstacle course in Leeds
  • The Leeds 10k run
  • The 10-mile Tough Mudder course in Skipton
  • The 24-mile Yorkshire Three Peaks, with three of her Redmayne Bentley colleagues, Ellie Fahy, Alistair Mancrief and Sarah Stead
  • The 17-km Maverick Inov-8 X run over Mount Snowdon in Wales
And she plans to take the toughest of her challenges, the Snowdon run, again in 2019.
She said: “I think it’s important that businesses like Redmayne Bentley get involved in their communities and it was very rewarding to contribute to the year’s work.”

In addition to Rachael’s challenges, colleagues across the firm’s office in Bond Court have also contributed to fundraising for the charity. Three teams took part in the Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge during the summer, while others baked cakes and held dress down days and sweepstakes throughout the year.

Charli Brunning, Corporate Fundraising Officer at Leeds Mind said: “We are truly blessed as a charity to have such wonderful organisations raising funds and awareness for Leeds Mind across the city. When individuals within those organisations create their own personal challenges and goals within that relationship, amazing things happen, as we can see here. Rachael has had a fantastic year of conquering some extremely tough challenges, and we are incredibly grateful for the time she has dedicated and sweat that has been shed in the process. Rachael, from everyone at Leeds Mind, thank you so much for your commitment to our cause.”
