Trading issue delays opening of London main indices

Trading in the London Stock Exchange’s main indices was today (16th August 2019) delayed by 100 minutes due to what it described as a “potential trading issue” before resuming at 9.40am.

While trading in FTSE 100 and FTSE 250 stocks was suspended, investment management and stockbroking firm Redmayne Bentley conducted around a quarter of its trade usually expected for that time. Trading in stocks outside the FTSE 350 and AIM-traded stocks were not impacted by the delay.

The firm’s Director of Stockbroking Phil Armitage said: “The outage was the longest since February 2011, when trading was suspended until lunchtime over a software issue. At the time of writing the London Stock Exchange is investigating this morning’s issue and we’re waiting to see exactly what was behind the delay.”

Immediately after opening the FTSE 100 was up around 0.8%.

Further updates will be provided as more information is received.
