Lisa hot-foots it for charity

From a walk over hot coals to a 10km run through a Royal residence, an investment manager will be putting her best foot forward to raise funds for the expansion of charity Sue Ryder's neurological care centre, Dee View Court.

Lisa McLeod, of the Grampian office of investment management and stockbroking firm Redmayne Bentley, has already raised almost £1,400 for the organisation by undertaking the Dee View Court Fire Walk.

This was just the start of her fundraising activity for Sue Ryder’s Dee View Court appeal, the Huntly-based office’s chosen charity for 2019 – and there is one special person on Lisa’s mind, every step of the way.

Lisa explained: “My mother-in-law Marilyn was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis when she was my age, and sadly her condition has continued to deteriorate over the past 20 years that I have known her.

“It amazes me every day that she never complains about the challenges she faces and just keeps on smiling. I turn 40 in September and have decided to dedicate the next 12 months to raising funds in my own little attempt to make a difference. I am looking forward to doing what I can and hopefully having some fun along the way!”

The fire walk was understandably daunting for Lisa but she was well prepared for the challenge. She said: “Before we undertook the walk, we had a two-hour motivational session which focused on how you felt as a person, and going through role play with others which helped build up adrenaline and prepare you for the challenge.

“I could feel the heat around me as I was doing the walk but nothing under my feet.”

Lisa is now training for the next part of her challenge – the Run Balmoral 10k sponsored by Stena Drilling, taking place on Saturday 27th April 2019. During the summer, Lisa is planning a cycling event and an open water swim.

She added: “I am also hoping to put together a fundraising topical quiz later this year.”

Dee View Court is a Sue Ryder specialist neurological centre in Aberdeen and is Scotland’s only purpose-built specialist care centre providing round-the-clock care for people aged 18 - 65 with long-term neurological conditions including Huntington’s disease and multiple sclerosis.

This facility urgently needs to expand and Sue Ryder has launched a £3.9m appeal to create another 20 rooms and double its capacity. You can find out more at www.sueryder.org/deeviewappeal.

As the Balmoral 10k draws near, Lisa said: “I’m feeling good, having upped the mileage over the past week, with some of my training in Nairn and a great sports massage from Caroline at CW Personal Training & Massage Therapy.

“There has been a lot of activity at Dee View Court recently, the expansion is going well but funds are very much needed to get it completed.”
