Marks & Spencer boosts Q1 sales

11 July 2017 07:18

Marks & Spencer has lifted group sales for the 13 weeks to 1 July by 2.7% to £2.53bn, helped by rises in both total UK and International.

Total UK sales rose 2.6% to £2.26bn, with International up 3.8% to £272.3m.

Like-for-like total sales in the UK fell 0.5%.

"Trading in the first quarter was in line with our expectations and we are on track with delivery of the plan we announced last year," said CEO Steve Rowe.

"I am pleased that we continue to grow full price sales in Clothing & Home, with reduced discounting and no clearance sale in the quarter.

"In our Food business, we delivered strong growth from new Simply Food openings, and are prioritising better ranging and stronger promotions."
